Hello Summer. Welcome Coaching.

Updated: Jul 11, 2020

We made it. A huge pat on the back. A huge celebratory social distancing party.

Distance learning during COVID has been about surviving and finding some silver linings. It has been about teaching what you could and letting go of the rest. It has been a race to soak up all these new technologies to engage our students from across the screen. It has been about social emotional awareness and triage.

But now you did it. You have made it to the summer. You are a survivor.

Take a day or two to relax. And then make a list. (Actually you are going to make 3 lists. Go ahead, grab a piece of paper and start writing.)

1. Make a list of everything that went well. Include those things that you were completely surprised by, that you rocked!

2. Make a list of everything that went wrong, that was stressful, that was frustrating, that made you sad and worried and submissive to the current pandemic.

3. And make a list of things you learned, and all the ways in which you grew. Of those things that have potential and those things that you can tweak.

Now let's reflect on each of those lists.

I am proud of you for those things that went well, and for making the most of our situation and for continuing to facilitate student learning using herculean methods.

I empathize with you about the missed opportunities, those things we could not control, and those students who truly struggled during this time.

And I am here to help you with those ideas that you want to develop.

Distance learning was about surviving but moving forward it just might be our new reality. Not something we merely get through and struggle with but something we actively plan for.

So flip your paper over now and answer these questions:

1. How can you modify your lesson plans to better support a distance learning model?

2. How can you better organize your materials in a distance learning classroom?

3. How can you engage your students using distance learning?

4. How can you better utilize technology to help you?

If you need help with any of these things, you have come to the right place! With a coaching session, I can help guide you toward the modifications, outcomes, technologies, platforms and the steps you can take to tackle the above questions. Together we can work to identify the real question, "What do I NEED my student to understand?!" and working backwards to fill in the steps and the tools that can best support the outcome. We can identify, "What do I need as a teacher to be more effective, more aware, more feedback driven?" and work on the skills to attain and measure those skills. And we can learn how to use specific platforms such as: google suite, google classroom, ZOOM, schoology, screencastify, flipgrid, the list goes on and on to best support student learning.

Schedule a coaching session today! I can't wait to work with you.
